Pre-Authorization in the Point of Sale Terminal
Pre-Authorization allows a bartender or server to guarantee the card the customer is using is valid before initiating any sales. This is commonly used for Bars that will pre-auth a value to the credit card, these values are typically between $25.00 and $50.00.
Prior authorizations don't' actually charge the card, they aren't voided and will drop from the credit card a few days after the authorization.
To Pre-Auth a customer:
From the menu screen, press the Pre-Auth button. The Pre-Auth Screen pictured below will be displayed. Swipe the customer's card. The Name of the customer will be applied to the order. Also a new line will appear on the list with the authorization code of the card authorized.
To apply the pre-auth as a payment:
If for any reason the card can not make the final payment on the order, it may be necessary to force the pre-authorization that has already occurred.
Select the line from the list. The details will be displayed in the header section of the screen. Then from the toolbar press the “Process as Payment” option.
