Conficker Virus – a worm in waiting. Protect your Point of Sale

This is an important update for all Point of sale users. This worm can severely impact your site’s operations. If you have any questions please email us or contact your reseller by phone as soon as you can.

So if you haven’t activated the Windows XP updates you should make sure they are running on all of your computers. Why? Because according to http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7832652.stm an estimated 9.5 million computers have been infected.

The worm will not affect your terminals until it activates. This means your computer may be infected without your knowledge.

There’s a few more important concepts:

1. It can crack weak passwords in windows. This means, change your windows passwords to strong typed passwords.

2. It can be moved around with USB Drives. This means, if you are storing your backups on a USB Drive, make sure you also disinfect your USB Drives with a virus scanner.

3. It can infect and affect computers with the Windows Patch. Make sure you have a virus scanning software installed and running.
